Recreate
Existing Design Fragments
|
Find interesting and unusual designs in magazines, yearbooks, and anywhere
else they occur. InDesign is versatile enough to allow you to recreate
it. Look at the entire design to see its parts...geometric figures such
as lines, rectangles and circles, photos, and arrangement of text, including
font styles. Use the tools in InDesign you already know about to piece
together a copy of the design on a blank page.

Save Your Designs in a Library
|
Once the design has been recreated, it's time to store it in a library.
Go to File>New>Library and save the file in your folder. A new
palette will appear on your screen with the tab "Library"
or whatever you named the file when you saved it. Select all elements
of your design by going to Edit>Select All, typing -A
or drawing an enclosure around it with the black arrow tool. Click on
the palette's menu in the upper right corner and select Add Item. An
untitled icon representing your design appears in the palette. Double-click
it to rename it, and type the name and page number of the publication
where you found the original design in the Description field. When you are done, click the palette's
menu and select Close Library, or you may not be able to log off the
server.
